Tucked in at just over 9,000 feet in the San Juan Mountains is a town that frequently sees visitors yet doesn’t feel at all like a tourist trap. Always invitingly authentic, Silverton serves as a gateway to some of the most breathtaking country in all of Colorado.
Silverton emerged in the late 1800s as a mining camp hub. When the railroad rolled in from Durango and connected the mining towns, the town grew to more than 2,000 people, hundreds of buildings, and gave birth to the infamous Blair Street red light district.
Just outside Silverton are some spectacular mountain valleys and gorgeous peaks, and one of the best ways to get there an experience them is with a Jeep. Silverton also provides access to the 65-mile Alpine Loop which has its own gorgeous scenery and vistas that will leave a beautifully lasting impression.
Engineer Pass is another incredible ride provided you’re not squeamish about heights. No matter where you decide to go in or beyond the Ouray area, we’ll be happy to provide the off-road vehicles so you can explore and admire the incredible scenery. You’ll quickly realize why Ouray is the country’s “Switzerland of America”.
