As you’re wandering around Ouray and beyond in your off-road vehicle, one thing you’re quickly going to notice is how everything is scenic just about anywhere you happen to go. However, it is important to be aware that some trails you may be on are designed for more experienced drivers. If you’re planning on using your Jeep to visit nearby Telluride, consider these roads.
In terms of miles, Black Bear Pass will get you to Telluride in the shortest amount of miles (12) but it’s a longer trek than if you were to go on the highway. The trail has several narrow turns and sharp twists that are best reserved for those with years of experience.
Imogene is a slightly easier trail consisting of seventeen miles. As you’re navigating those seventeen miles you’re going to come across some truly spectacular scenery. On the other hand, you can try Ophir Pass which is an easier trail yet still offers scenic views which include waterfalls, a mountain lake, and more.
Film buffs may want to drop by Last Dollar Road which travels past the Ross Ranch, a location once used as a setting for the classic John Wayne-starring 1969 film True Grit. Considered a level one, it isn’t difficult to navigate.
