A Beginner’s Guide to Off Roading

offRoadingThere is arguably no better state to enjoy a superior off-roading experience than Colorado. With its backcountry, trails, and four wheel drive roads, towns like Ouray provide a great way to experience what it’s like getting lost in the middle of beautiful nature and exploring areas beyond the beaten path.

The first step you may wish to take when getting ready to embark on an off-road experience is to make sure that everything is booked ahead of time, planning each day based on where you’re headed. It’s always best to do this with a buddy as solo off-road experiences should be reserved for those with plenty of experience.

As you’re off-roading, you may come across a route that’s a little too risky. Always be prepared to turn around and head back and make sure to carry extra fuel, food, and water. Bringing along a spare tire or two is also a good idea.

As you’re off-roading, you may travel into areas where communication may be a problem. A cell phone is a good idea but again, if you’re planning on venturing beyond trails that are well-traveled, consider bringing along a way to stay in touch.
