Alternative Ways to Reach Telluride

tellurideFor an incredible Jeep experience, there is arguably no other place like Ouray, Colorado which has earned the title of “Jeeping Capitol of the World”. More than 450 miles of trails can be found, and if you’re looking to visit Telluride there are several ways you can get there beyond the typical highway.

While the highway will get you there faster, there are scenic trails you can take to get to Telluride, beginning with Black Bear Pass. Although it’s the shortest route in miles, it’s highly scenic but not for the experienced. Over ten miles of narrow turns and sharp twists make up Black Bear Pass and it’s intense enough that many rental companies won’t allow vehicles to be used on it.

Imogene is slightly less intense, but is known for its spectacular scenery. In fact, it’s perhaps the second most popular trail in the area, boasting a jaw dropping summit of 13,100 feet. For something a little easier you could consider Ophir Pass which has a lower summit but still provides a scenic backdrop including waterfalls and a mountain lake. The trail will eventually drop you off in the small town of Ophir which is only a couple of miles away from Telluride.
